The Bloomin’ Farm has deep roots in Sun Prairie. The mission now is to keep it a working family farm for the next 100 years — owned by the community, for the community.
50 vases. Then 100. Then 200 …
When Stan’s mother passed away, he started giving flowers away in her memory. 50 vases the first year. 100 the next year. 200 the year after that. He kept doubling it. Eventually he had to buy a farm just to keep the tradition going.
Stan came to The Bloomin’ Farm as a retired business executive and UW hockey player with no farming background. A mutual friend made the introduction. And two long cups of coffee ended in a handshake. The lawyers said they hadn’t seen a deal close that cleanly in 30 years.
A Farm with Deep Roots
For more than two decades, this land has been growing flowers that people in Sun Prairie come back for year after year. The previous owners built something the community loved. When Stan bought the farm, he wasn’t starting from scratch. He was making a commitment to carry it forward.
That commitment has meant real investment. A new loading dock. A greenhouse five times the size of the original. Expanded growing capacity. The farm you see today is built on decades of care. And it’s growing from there.

A Room of Students Changed His Mind
Stan went back to finish a degree he’d started during his hockey-playing days at UW. He ended up in a cooperative studies class.
The students used the farm as their term paper subject and made the case for community ownership.
He’d been planning to sell the land to developers. He chose a 100-year mission instead.
For the Next 100 Years
The vision is simple. Transition this single-family farm into a community-owned cooperative and keep it a working family farm for generations.
When 4,000 families pledge, the farm converts. Members invest $500, elect a nine-person board, and become co-owners. One vote per member. An annual dividend. And every $100 spent on flowers and plants earns $7 in Heavenly Cash to use on your next visit.
